Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB): Refers to a continuum of obstructive disorders ranging in severity from primary snoring to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Partial or complete repetitive obstructions of the upper airway during sleep which are associated with heavy, chronic snoring. Tonsillectomy: Surgical procedure to remove the tonsils bilaterally. Adenoidectomy: Surgical removal of enlarged lymphoid tissue (adenoids) from the nasopharynx. McGill Oximetry Score (MOS): A 4-level severity scoring system ranking children according to overnight oximetry results. It is based on the number and the depth of desaturation events (normal to severely abnormal, categories 1–4).
